DePelchin Children’s Center is the leading not-for-profit center in Texas for children’s well-being, with a focus on mental health, foster care and adoption services.  The DePelchin began its services in Houston in the late 1890s and now its services extend throughout Texas.

At the Spring Branch location, counseling services are provided for children and adolescents, ages 3-18 years, for a variety of concerns; including, but not limited to, ADHD, behavior management, domestic violence, mood disorders, parenting skills and trauma relating to physical and sexual abuse.

How has collaboration with Spring Branch Family Development Center furthered DePelchin’s mission?

“I have had many cases receiving multiple services through SBFDC. The collaboration among SBFDC partners becomes particularly handy whenever I have a client whose family is undergoing a lot of financial stress.  For example, while treating a client for behavioral issues and/or mood disorders such as anxiety or depression, the family can easily be referred to Family Houston for case management services, which often includes applying for Medicaid, food stamps, and rent/utility assistance. In at least half of these common cases, the family, is in an overall much better place financially, emotionally, and physically because of the collaborative services at SBFDC.

Another common case is to receive a referral from the Boys & Girls Club. As the BGC Program Director observes the behaviors and interactions with other students, when concerns arise, they can give a referral to DePelchin Children’s Center.  Because we work at the same site, the Program Director and I can communicate, in person, enabling good communication and the ability to reinforce therapeutic interventions when the client is outside of their therapy session. This partnership makes treatment much more successful.”
